"We Were Promised A Simpler Life, And Technology Has Only Complicated Our Lives"
We’re pretty sure that Freeman Thomas is a smart guy, but you’ll never hear anyone at Amplify Media repeating his quote that you see above. It’s hard for us to consider technology as any kind of complication when so many of us are able to use technology to do our jobs from anywhere in the world at any time.
Every website designed and developed here at Amplify is accessible and fully controllable by smart phone, tablet, or PC. For many of our clients, this means that they’re able to do more and more of their work without ever having to set foot in an office. Mr. Thomas may consider this blurring of the work/home divide to be a complication, but there’s an important factor that’s being missed in that assessment. The technology that we build doesn’t just allow our clients to work from home, it allows them to do a lot more of their work with a lot less time and effort required. We’ve talked before on this blog about automating work functions and we’ll bring it up again because it really does bear repeating: the vast majority of the time, tedious office work can be either fully or partially automated using our Flow control platform. We may be blurring the line between home and work, but we’re also dramatically reducing the amount of required work time overall.
The printing press didn’t complicate life for people who like to read. The tractor didn’t complicate life for farmers (although it probably made horses and oxen feel a bit outdated). Frankly, we’re hard pressed to think of any technology that has complicated the lives of the people who use it most. That’s why we’re taking a stand and disagreeing with the esteemed Mr. Thomas. Technology doesn’t complicate life, it makes life easier. It frees up our time, connects us with our friends, family, and colleagues, and allows us to learn and create at a rate never before seen in history.
If that’s complication, we don’t really want to be simple.
